Councilwoman Traci Park Plays Significant Role in Expanding Reach in Youth Sports

LOS ANGELES,  - In her inaugural Ad Hoc committee meeting on the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Councilwoman Traci Park spearheaded pivotal votes aimed at boosting youth participation in sports as the city gears up for the games.

"The Olympics is more than just a global display of competition and athleticism," Councilwoman Park said. "It presents a golden opportunity for Los Angeles to demonstrate our leadership, and to create lasting transformative programs that resonate beyond the conclusion of the games."

On Tuesday's agenda, the committee voted on an amendment to add seven additional recreation and aquatic centers in the City’s Play LA program. Funding for these centers results from $160 million given to the city through LA 28. This initiative aims to introduce children from disadvantaged areas to athletics, potentially nurturing future Olympians. Additionally, the committee voted to modify the definition of prequalified City recreation centers, ensuring that all youth have unrestricted access to sports.

  "The spirit of the Olympics is about unity, passion, and dreams,” said Park.  With these initiatives, we are taking steps not just to host the games but to inspire generations to come."

Councilwoman Park also emphasized the importance of hosting a green and sustainable Olympic event and outlined the broader benefits the Olympics could bring to the City of Angels.

 "We are committed to ensuring that ok the economic influence of the Olympics is widely felt across our city. From neighborhoods spanning Sylmar to San Pedro, Westchester to Boyle Heights, and extending to our hard-working individuals in the tourism sector, our small businesses, and more," she said Park.
