LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles City Council today unanimously approved Councilwoman Traci Park’s motion to provide critical tax relief for businesses and sole proprietors devastated by the Pacific Palisades Fire. Councilmember Park introduced the motion today and expedited its passage by invoking an emergency rule for immediate action.

The Pacific Palisades Fire has wreaked havoc, burning over 23,713 acres, destroying 6,380 structures, and causing widespread economic devastation. Councilwoman Park’s motion takes decisive steps to waive the 2025 gross receipts tax for businesses and sole proprietors whose businesses were destroyed or impacted for 60 or more consecutive days as a result of the fires.

“This relief cannot wait,” said Councilwoman Park. “Today’s unanimous vote sends a clear message: we stand with every small business owner and sole proprietor affected by this tragedy. Whether you’re the owner of a café, a clothing store, a gardener, or a childcare provider, we see you, and we are committed to helping you rebuild.”

The motion directs the City Attorney, with the assistance of the Office of Finance, to draft an  urgency ordinance waiving the 2025 gross receipts tax for:

  • Businesses destroyed by the wildfire.
  • Businesses impacted for 60 or more consecutive days due to the fire.
  • Sole proprietors, including housekeepers, gardeners, and childcare providers, who have experienced significant income loss due to client displacement.

Eligibility will be determined by the Office of Finance on a case-by-case basis to ensure that those most affected receive the support they need.

“Traci Park has always been a strong proponent of our district,” said Vanessa Pellegrino, co-owner of Vittorio’s, a 40-year old family-owned Italian restaurant in the Palisades that was destroyed. “She has continued to work with our community and I’m happy to see that this is a first step to us rebuilding. There is more to be done, but I am hopeful that this is the beginning to the long road to recovery.”

The urgency ordinance now awaits the Mayor’s approval. Once enacted, it will provide crucial support for businesses and individuals impacted by the wildfire, offering hope and stability during this challenging time.
