Los Angeles, CA – Councilwoman Traci Park announced Wednesday that she requested the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) report on the cyberattack that targeted its systems in December 2022. The councilwoman is seeking to understand the extent of the data breach, including whether personal information of the 19,000 families that live in HACLA  properties and Section 8 applicants and holders were compromised.

“The security of sensitive personal information is of the utmost importance, and I am deeply concerned about the potential impact of this cyberattack on the families who rely on HACLA for their housing needs,” Councilwoman Park stated. “I am calling on HACLA to provide a full and transparent report on the extent of the data breach and the steps they are taking to secure their systems moving forward.”

HACLA is the largest public housing authority in the City of Los Angeles, serving over 19,000 families, including at the Mar Vista Gardens in Council District 11. The agency provides affordable housing for low-income families, veterans, and the elderly, and is a critical resource for the community.  The   demographics of its public housing residents include an average household income of $27,865  with predominantly Hispanic (74 percent) and Black/African-American (22 percent) residents.

Councilwoman Park emphasized that her office will continue to monitor the situation and work with HACLA to ensure the safety and security of all families who rely on the agency for their housing needs.
