Del Rey, CA - Councilwoman Traci Park and Mayor Karen Bass announced today the “Culver Boulevard Median Inside Safe Initiative,” a joint effort aimed at offering housing and services to the homeless population living on the Culver Boulevard Median in Del Rey. The initiative aims to provide comprehensive solutions for almost 40 people living on the boulevard.

"I'm proud to partner once again with Mayor Bass to bring much-needed resources to the Culver Boulevard area," said Councilwoman Traci Park.  "I’ve heard loud and clear how important this was for the local community, and I am so relieved that people living on the streets are going to be offered a safe place indoors.”

“Inside Safe is our strategy to bring unhoused Angelenos inside in a sustainable way,” said Mayor Bass. “Yesterday, I visited the Inside Safe site in South Los Angeles and spoke with Angelenos who were living in tents and were happy to move into temporary housing. As we scale up our operation, we are going to be able to house more and more Angelenos, and I look forward to continuing that work.”

The "Inside Safe Initiative" is a collaborative effort between Saint Joseph Center and other city departments and service providers, aimed at providing housing, healthcare, and mental health services to those in need.

"Inside Safe is transforming the way we respond to the unhoused in our communities by combining immediate shelter and ongoing supportive services with a path to permanent housing,” said Va Lecia Adams Kellum, President & CEO of St. Joseph Center.  “St. Joseph Center is proud to be locking arms once again with Mayor Bass and Councilwoman Park to help some of our most vulnerable unhoused neighbors get off the street and on the path to stability.”

“I have been extremely impressed with the council office’s response to this crisis,” said Dillon Lawson-Johnson, a neighbor of the Culver Median Boulevard.  “She and her team have been in communications with the community, and most importantly have avoided the finger-pointing game.”

This marks the second implementation of the "Inside Safe" program on the Westside. Councilwoman Park and Mayor Bass previously housed nearly 100 individuals through the "Venice Bridge Home Inside Safe" initiative in January. Participants of that program continue to reside in interim housing and receive comprehensive support services.

"I am optimistic about the direction these initiatives are taking and eagerly anticipate their positive impact on our communities," said Park.
