AB 1847 Wildfire Victim Mortgage Relief Signed Into Law
A major new protection is now law for Los Angeles wildfire survivors. Governor Gavin Newsom has signed AB 1847, extending mortgage forbearance protections for eligible homeowners affected by the Palisades Fire.
The law extends available mortgage forbearance from 12 to 24 months for qualifying homeowners experiencing financial hardship whose homes remain uninhabitable. It also strengthens repayment protections by requiring mortgage servicers, unless prohibited by applicable investor or servicing rules, to offer borrowers the option to defer forborne payments until the end of the loan term.
Councilwoman Park supported AB 1847 as part of the City of Los Angeles’ state legislative program, helping advocate for additional financial breathing room for wildfire survivors as they navigate insurance claims, rebuilding, and recovery.
Reservoir Update
🚨The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) continues making significant progress on the Santa Ynez Drinking Water Reservoir Floating Cover Replacement Project, a major infrastructure upgrade designed to improve long‑term water system resiliency, protect drinking water quality, and ensure compliance with state and federal drinking water regulations. The reservoir remains temporarily out of service while construction advances, including installation of the new reinforced liner and floating cover system-both required to safeguard potable storage under the EPA’s Long‑Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule. As of today, the liner and cover installations are complete, and the project is on schedule to begin refilling later this month, with a full return to service expected by December 2026. Palisades Recreation Center Grand Opening
The Councilwoman was honored to join City officials, community leaders, and philanthropic partners recently at the Palisades Recreation Center for the historic groundbreaking on the $40 million reconstruction project following the devastating fires. Representing the largest public-private partnership in the history of the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, the initiative is funded entirely through private donations—requiring zero taxpayer dollars—with key leadership from Mayor Karen Bass, Rick Caruso’s Steadfast LA, and JJ Redick’s LA Strong Sports Foundation. Construction is expected to take 12 to 15 months, delivering an expanded, state-of-the-art facility to serve local families and revitalize the heart of the Palisades community.
Habits of Waste Greatest Bounce
Save the date for the Largest Sports Sustainability Event, hosted by local teens in partnership with Another Bounce and Habits of Waste! Join the community on Saturday, September 19, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Reed Park in Santa Monica to help break an official Guinness World Record for the most sports balls collected for recycling. Bring your used sports balls to earn free ice cream, and stick around for games, tennis, pickleball, a live DJ, and family fun!
Tramanto Project Update
Caltrans will continue conducting field investigations in your area. Geotechnical drilling will continue through October. As part of the drilling program, Caltrans will drill one geotechnical boring along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and 10 geotechnical borings within city streets and on private properties along Castellammare Drive, Revello Drive, Posetano Road, and Tramonto Drive. Crews will complete work one location at a time. Drilling at each location is expected to take up to five days.

Palisades Huntington Clean Up
Join Council District 11 and for the upcoming Huntington Palisades Community Clean Up on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Two dumpsters will be available at the corner of Pampas Ricas and Ocampo Drive for debris disposal. Volunteers are encouraged to join, pick up equipment and safety items, and help keep the neighborhood clean and safe.

The Mayor’s Office is inviting the Pacific Palisades community to the 3rd Community Care Day, a day dedicated to wellness, support, and connecting residents with essential resources. The event will offer services, activities, and resources for all ages, including a free tree giveaway.

Palisades Homelessness Taskforce
The Pacific Palisades Task Force on Homelessness (PPTFH) and the CD11 office are pleased to recognize and thank the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) for its continued efforts to help keep our hillsides and beaches safe throughout the community. We are especially grateful to the LAPD Beach Detail officers and West LA Division for their ongoing support, dedication, and commitment to this important community resource.
Lifeguard test at Westwood Pool on September 20
Interested in becoming a Los Angeles City Lifeguard? The next lifeguard test will be held Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Westwood Pool (1350 S. Sepulveda Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025).
The starting salary is $26 per hour, with free training and testing available at participating L.A. City pools. Applicants must be 17 years old by June 1, 2027 to qualify.

State Farm General Homeowners Insurance Update
On Sept. 16, State Farm General filed updated guidelines with the California Department of Insurance that would allow it to consider new insurance applications for qualifying homes with an Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) Wildfire Prepared Home designation.
Homes with the Wildfire Prepared Home Enhanced designation could be eligible statewide, regardless of wildfire risk area, provided they meet State Farm General’s standard underwriting requirements. The program emphasizes practical wildfire mitigation measures, including defensible space and home hardening, that can help reduce wildfire damage when properly completed and maintained.
State Farm has supported the IBHS research behind the Wildfire Prepared Home program. Community members can learn more through State Farm’s newsroom article, “State Farm and the California Insurance Marketplace.”
Our Beautification Team Continues to Keep The Palisades Clean
Our Beautification Team continues to conduct cleanup and restoration activities throughout the Pacific Palisades area. The team’s next cleanup location will be along Sunset Boulevard between Palisades Drive and El Medio Avenue, where they will continue working on additional cleanup, brush removal, and neighborhood restoration efforts.
Virtual Emergency Preparedness Town Hall
Join the Mayor’s Office, EMD, LAFD, LAPD, and LADOT for a Virtual Emergency Preparedness Town Hall on Thursday, September 24, from 5:00–6:00 PM. The town hall will provide updates on El Niño preparedness, emergency resources, and ways Pacific Palisades residents can prepare for future emergencies.
Free Weekly Solar Education Sessions
Resilient Palisades is hosting free weekly Power Up Palisades education sessions to help homeowners make informed decisions about solar and battery systems. Each Tuesday at 6 PM on Zoom, we’ll tackle a different practical topic, including inverter options, solar panel and battery brands, financing, warranties, maintenance, subpanels and meter collars.
