Alphabets Neighborhood Cleanup
Join the Alphabets Neighborhood Cleanup on Saturday, August 22, from 9–11 AM to help clear drains, remove debris, and prepare the neighborhood for potential El Niño weather. 🌧️ Residents can also get helpful weather-preparation tips and participate in a Brush Clearance Q&A. The first 50 volunteers will receive free T-shirts and trash pickers, so come out and help keep the community clean and prepared!

The Rustic Canyon Recreation Center Pool is Open!
The Rustic Canyon Recreation center pool is open. For the remainder of the season, the pool will offer recreational swimming on weekdays from 3-7 p.m. and on weekends from 1-5 p.m. The final day of operation will be Sept. 7 from 1-5 p.m.
CalTrans Notice of Construction
Caltrans will conduct field investigations in the Pacific Palisades, including surface geophysical surveys beginning the week of August 10 and geotechnical drilling beginning the week of August 23 through October. Drilling will take place along PCH and on Castellammare Drive, Revello Drive, Posetano Road, and Tramonto Drive, with each location expected to take up to five days. Temporary road closures and safety barriers will be in place during work hours, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday; residents and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes when possible.
Business Block Update
As the most iconic commercial building in Pacific Palisades, the Business Block's future is still being determined. The building is a Historic Cultural Monument (#276). Our office commissioned Structural Focus to conduct a structural analysis of the building to determine what, if any, of it is salvageable. It was determined that approximately half of the building's facade is not salvageable. The Council Office remains in discussion with the ownership to determine the future of the building.
Construction Practices
The City of Los Angeles is actively enforcing violations related to unpermitted and unsafe construction practices, including illegal dumping, obstruction of public rights-of-way, and unauthorized material storage. Construction equipment that damages streets, curbs, sidewalks, public facilities, or infrastructure, as well as uncovered dirt and debris, mud, gravel, or construction runoff left on roadways, may also result in enforcement. Contractors and property owners must obtain proper approvals before cutting, excavating, or removing materials from the public right-of-way and must not use public or private property as unauthorized disposal sites. Enforcement actions may include Notices of Violation, vehicle seizure, administrative fines, and property liens.

Pacific Palisades Urban Forest Master Plan
My office continues to work with the Pacific Palisades Urban Forest Master Plan team, StreetsLA’s Urban Forestry Division, LADWP, and community stakeholders to discuss the restoration and long-term vision for Pacific Palisades’ urban forest. As this effort moves forward, the Palisades Forestry Committee will lead community outreach and engagement in partnership with the Pacific Palisades Community Council (PPCC). Community members can expect comprehensive opportunities to learn more about the Urban Forest Master Plan, provide input, and help shape the future of Pacific Palisades’ tree canopy and public landscape.
ENR West Announces 2026 California Best Project Winners
ENR West has announced the winners of its 2026 Regional Best Projects competition for Northern and Southern California, recognizing outstanding projects across California and Hawaii. An independent panel of Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry experts reviewed 131 projects and selected 29 Best Projects and 32 Awards of Merit based on innovation, community impact, safety, and construction and design quality. Our own City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering was honored with a recognition of “Best Small Project” for their work on the Posetano Road (17432) Emergency Road Repair. LADWP projects updates
LADWP will conduct potholing and underground vault installation along Sunset Boulevard between Amalfi Drive and Napoli Drive from August 17–30, 2026, as part of ongoing utility infrastructure improvements. Work will take place weekdays from 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. for potholing and weekends from 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. for vault installation. One travel lane will remain open in each direction, with no detours anticipated. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use caution through the work zone.
Topanga Canyon Boulevard/State Route 27 Palisades Fire Repairs
Caltrans continues recovery work along the 3.6-mile stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard/SR-27 between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive following damage from the Palisades Fire. Daytime travel was restored March 2, 2026, and overnight travel was restored May 12, 2026; the roadway is now open 24 hours a day with traffic restrictions. As of June 2026, crews were completing a geosynthetic reinforced embankment at postmile 2.7, while work on the final major section—the installation of an 84-inch reinforced concrete pipe—began July 6, 2026, replacing a smaller 34-inch pipe to improve stormwater capacity and durability. The emergency repair project has cost at least $38.5 million, with major structural work and repairs expected to be completed by the end of 2026, although additional restrictions may be needed as work continues. Pacific Coast Highway/State Route 1 Palisades Fire Repairs
Caltrans is continuing multiple emergency repair and recovery projects along Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) following damage from the January 2025 Palisades Fire and subsequent winter storms. Most locations underwent debris removal and damage assessments from January–April 2025, with repair and restoration work beginning around May–June 2025. Current conditions vary by location: the McClure Tunnel to Temescal Canyon Road has returned to normal conditions, Temescal Canyon Road to Sunset Boulevard has reduced restrictions with a 35 mph speed limit, while Sunset Boulevard to Carbon Beach Terrace remains an active work zone with possible single-lane closures and a 25 mph speed limit. Retaining wall repairs near Porto Marina Way are estimated at $2.4 million and are expected to be completed by the end of 2026, although all timelines remain subject to weather and operational conditions. https://dot.ca.gov/caltrans-near-me/district-7/district-7-projects/pch-palisades-fire-repairs
