Palisades Fire Arson Mistrial
Earlier this week, U.S. District Judge Anne Hwang dismissed the federal jury today in the arson trial of Jonathan Rinderknecht after jurors deadlocked 10-to-2 in favor of acquittal. I will continue to monitor this situation for any updates for you. While we all want justice for the Palisades community, nothing about this decision will bring back the lives lost or restore what was taken from so many thousands of victims. My thoughts are with every survivor, family worker, and small business owner still fighting to rebuild their lives and for the answers and accountability they deserve. You can read more about this development here.
FEMA Individual Assistance Loan Extension
I am grateful for FEMA’s decision to extend the Individual Assistance deadlines for Palisades Fire survivors who still face recovery delays. It stands as a lifeline for survivors trying to piece their lives back together. There is still so much we need to do to get this community home, but this is a vital step. FEMA has extended this deadline to July 9th, 2027 for homeowners and to October 9th, 2026 for renters impacted by the fires. Read more about this here.
The Pacific Palisades Fourth of July Celebration
The beloved Pacific Palisades Fourth of July Celebration is making its return next weekend! Just eighteen months after the devastating wildfire, the community will come together for the 77th Annual Pacific Palisades July 4th Parade through the Historic Village, followed by a spectacular evening celebration at Palisades High School. As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of America’s founding, this year's event promises to showcase the resilience, pride, and spirit that define the Pacific Palisades. Stay tuned for additional event details and announcements.
Asphalt Repairs Have Begun Throughout the Palisades
The Bureau of Street Services (BSS) has begun the first phase of asphalt repairs in the Pacific Palisades area. This work will continue over the coming weeks as crews make necessary roadway improvements throughout the community. Residents are advised to exercise caution and remain aware of large trucks, construction equipment, and work crews operating in the neighborhood. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as these critical repairs move forward.
Potrero Canyon Pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge Project
The Potrero Canyon Pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge Project is moving forward and the City of Los Angeles’ Bureau of Engineering is inviting residents, business owners, and community stakeholders to participate in the next phase of the process. As the project advances, community members are encouraged to reengage and share their input. Community feedback will play a critical role in guiding the development of the proposed pedestrian and bicycle bridge, helping ensure the design reflects community priorities while improving safety and enhancing access across Pacific Coast Highway, connecting George Wolfberg Park and Will Rogers State Beach.
Bienveneda Avenue Emergency Repairs Project
The Bureau of Engineering (BOE) began construction of the Bienveneda Avenue (559) Emergency Repairs Project on May 4, 2026. The project is progressing successfully and remains on schedule. Please be advised that traffic impacts are expected during construction hours, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Every effort will be made to accommodate residents and minimize disruptions throughout the construction period.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and cooperation as these necessary improvements are completed. For questions regarding the project, please contact Superintendent Chris Ochoa at 310-505-7395.
SBA Loan Disbursement Deadline Clarification
If you were approved for an SBA Disaster Loan following the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, you may have an upcoming deadline as early as June 30th to disburse and draw down your loaned funds.
If you have questions about your loan, contact your SBA case manager as soon as possible. You can also log into the MySBA Loan Portal to accept your loan online or schedule an appointment with the SBA for in-person or phone assistance. If you are unable to reach your case manager, Pacific Palisades survivors can visit the Pali Hub Disaster Recovery & Resilience Center (15239 La Cruz Drive) and ask for Customer Service Representatives Lucinda or Deborah, who can help review your application and portal status.
While some borrowers may be eligible to request a deferment on the initial disbursement, every loan is different. Accepting your loan starts the 12-month repayment timeline, but monthly payments do not begin until 12 months after your first disbursement. The SBA encourages borrowers to confirm the details of their individual loan directly with their case manager before making a decision.
Don’t wait until the last minute. If you have an approved SBA Disaster Loan, review your options, speak with your case manager, and take action before June 30. After that date, approved but undisbursed loan assistance will generally only be available on a case-by-case basis.
