LA CITY COUNCILWOMAN TRACI PARK ISSUES STATEMENT FOLLOWING CUPC ACTION TO HALT WAYMO EXPANSION IN LOS ANGELES
CITY HALL -- Los Angeles City Councilwoman Traci Park issued the following statement following today’s CUPC action to halt the expansion of Waymo passenger service in parts of Los Angeles, including Council District 11.
“Until there is absolute certainty that Autonomous Vehicle technology is safe for our roadways and users, we should pump the brakes on any effort to permit their commercial operation on City streets,” said Councilwoman Traci Park.
Since taking office, Councilwoman Park has led local efforts to address the advent of autonomous vehicles. This includes securing unanimous city council approval of her motion that asks City Departments to assess what steps the city can take at the local level to keep our streets safe, in addition to how LAX plans to approach autonomous vehicle access to its central terminal area. These reports are currently pending.
